Question and Answer

These two pieces were painted on mirrors, so that viewers can see their reflection in the skull and in Christ's face.

Question & Ans

Skull

The skul
represents our common enemy - death - and our reflection in death's face reminds us that whoever we are in this life, black or white, good or bad, rich or poor, whatever we accumulate, comes to nothing at death, except what we store in our hearts.

Christ's face
represents life. He has conquered even death. He claimed ' I am the Life'
The mirror reflects the world passing by, changing with each generation, like time itself our lives flash by, here one minute and gone the next.

Christ's face remains constant, He does not change, His truth is eternal, the words He spoke 2000 years ago are as relevant and true today as they were then, put His words deep in our hearts like buried treasure, and look into His face, see our reflection in His face, examine yourself reflect on who you are and realise - you are a child of God

The piece prompts the viewer to enquire: who am I, where do I come from and where do I go to?

Spiritual Landscape

The painting starts at the centre with the face of Christ, which is within the Jewish star of David. The original surface of the white canvas forms the image of His face, symbolising that He existed before anything else.
The rest of the painting is painted on a dark ground, and all the other religious symbols are illuminated with lighter colours, representing God's light revealing himself.

The star is surrounded by the Hindu deity, Shiva, creator and destroyer, and out of his circle come hands, we share in his creation.
spacer

On the right side, East, in the male half of the picture, a hand holds a sword, man's way, which is also the two edged sword of truth, God's word, against a background of our solar system, this is mirrored in miniature on the left side as atoms in their orbits.

On the left, West, in the female half, is an open hand in a caring pose holding the Earth, surrounded by a rainbow, this represents God's promise not to destroy the Earth.

In Christ's face in the centre, there are holes in the canvas behind which is a mirror so that viewers, when looking directly at the painting, will see their own reflection in Christ's face.

This is an invitation to examine themselves and realise who they are, The Children of God.

At the bottom, south, of the picture is a perfect apple with two bites taken out of it, by Adam and Eve, the leaves of the fruit are already decayed or dying and the inside is rotting, the serpent is sliding away into the fires of Hell.
The top, north, shows two hands praying, surrounded by God's Holy Spirit in the form of a dove, His active force in the world. at the head of this is the Chinese, yin yang symbol, the dove like God's power knows no bounds and breaks out of the picture frame in which everything else is contained.

"Christ is our Lord and King and the kingdom of God is our country".
